The '''Journalist Phelippe Daou Bridge''' ({{langx|pt|'''Ponte Rio Negro'''}}) is the fourth longest bridge<ref name=":2">{{Cite web|title=Rio Negro Bridge, $400-Million Economic Link, Opens in Amazon Basin|url=https://www.enr.com/articles/4905-rio-negro-bridge-400-million-economic-link-opens-in-amazon-basin|access-date=2021-12-07|website=www.enr.com|language=en}}</ref> in Brazil at {{convert|3595|m}} long, with a [cable-stayed bridge](/source/cable-stayed_bridge) section of {{convert|400|m}},<ref name=":2" /> over the [Rio Negro](/source/Rio_Negro_(Amazon)) that links the city of [Manaus](/source/Manaus) with the small town of [Iranduba](/source/Iranduba) in the state of [Amazonas](/source/Amazonas_(Brazilian_state)) in [Brazil](/source/Brazil).<ref name=":0">{{cite news|url=https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2010/jul/29/manaus-bridge-amazon-rainforest|title=First Amazon bridge to open world's greatest rainforest to development|newspaper=The Guardian|date=2010-08-05|access-date=2019-10-30}}</ref> It spans the Rio Negro just before its confluence with the [Amazon River](/source/Amazon_River), and is the only major bridge across the Amazon or any tributary in the Amazon basin.<ref name=":0" /> Its construction was marked by controversy over the potential effects of roadbuilding in the [Amazon basin](/source/Amazon_basin), which could lead to [deforestation](/source/Deforestation_of_the_Amazon_rainforest).<ref name=":1">{{Cite web|title=Rio Negro Bridge, $400-Million Economic Link, Opens in Amazon Basin|url=https://www.enr.com/articles/4905-rio-negro-bridge-400-million-economic-link-opens-in-amazon-basin?v=preview|access-date=2021-01-31|website=www.enr.com|language=en}}</ref> A 2018 study found that the construction of this bridge did induce deforestation.<ref>{{Cite journal|last1=Ramos|first1=Camila Julia Pacheco|last2=de Alencastro Graça|first2=Paulo Maurício Lima|last3=Fearnside|first3=Philip Martin|date=2018-12-01|title=Deforestation Dynamics on an Amazonian Peri-Urban Frontier: Simulating the Influence of the Rio Negro Bridge in Manaus, Brazil|url=https://doi.org/10.1007/s00267-018-1097-3|journal=Environmental Management|language=en|volume=62|issue=6|pages=1134–1149|doi=10.1007/s00267-018-1097-3|pmid=30171329 |s2cid=52141121 |issn=1432-1009|url-access=subscription}}</ref>

A quintessential [Bridge to nowhere](/source/Bridge_to_nowhere), it does not connect to the south side of the Amazon River and the rest of Brazil. Its construction has raised the possibility of expansion and reconstruction of the federal highway [BR-319](/source/BR-319), which links the region to [Porto Velho](/source/Porto_Velho), Rondônia, and thus to the rest of Brazil.<ref name=":1" /> That road is on the south side of the Amazon, and so any vehicle from Manaus would still have to make a ferry connection across the main stem of the Amazon, despite the completion of the Rio Negro bridge.
