# Rick Day

**Rick Day** (born July 30, 1962) is an [American](/source/Americans) [photographer](/source/Photography) based in [New York City](/source/New_York_City). His work concentrates on advertising photography and [video](/source/Videography).

## Biography

Day was born and raised in [Greenville, South Carolina](/source/Greenville,_South_Carolina). He moved to [Atlanta](/source/Atlanta) at the age of 18 and worked as a waiter and a [DJ](/source/Disc_jockey). After seeing a book of work by [Bruce Weber](/source/Bruce_Weber_(photographer)), Day bought his first camera at the age of 28.[1] As a self-taught photographer, he began shooting models in the Atlanta area before moving to [Milan](/source/Milan) for a year. He later relocated to New York City in 1994 where he resides in the [East Village](/source/East_Village,_Manhattan) with his two dogs.[2][3]

## Career

Day's work is influenced by photographers Bruce Weber, [Herb Ritts](/source/Herb_Ritts) and [Victor Skrebneski](/source/Victor_Skrebneski). His fashion spreads and images have been published in numerous publications including [*Elle*](/source/Elle_(magazine)), [*Details*](/source/Details_(magazine)), *[Vogue Italia](/source/Vogue_Italia)*, [*Männer*](/source/M%C3%A4nner_(magazine)), [*DNA*](/source/DNA_(magazine)) and *[GQ](/source/GQ)*.[3]

He has shot advertising campaigns for [Goody's](/source/Goody's_(store)), [Gap](/source/Gap_Inc.), [Ritani](/source/Ritani) and Rufskin. Celebrity subjects have included performers such as [Liza Minnelli](/source/Liza_Minnelli) and [Taylor Swift](/source/Taylor_Swift), athletes such as [Floyd Mayweather](/source/Floyd_Mayweather), and other public figures such as [Michael Strahan](/source/Michael_Strahan), [Nigel Barker](/source/Nigel_Barker_(photographer)), [Fabien Cousteau](/source/Fabien_Cousteau),[4] and [Robert Sepúlveda Jr](/source/Robert_Sep%C3%BAlveda_Jr.).[5]

Day published his first coffee table book, *Players*, in 2008.[3][6] His second book, *Pioneers*, released in 2010, debuted at number one on the [Amazon.com](/source/Amazon.com) best-selling erotic book list.[1][7] *Players Two* was published in 2011, and *All Players* was released in 2012. To date, all of Day's books have been released through publisher [Bruno Gmünder Verlag](/source/Bruno_Gm%C3%BCnder_Verlag).[2][3]

In 2015, he contributed photographs for [Kevin Clarke's](/source/Kevin_Clarke_(writer)) *The Art of Looking: The Life and Treasures of Collector Charles Leslie.*[8] The same year he co-directed his first music video for New York-based singer-songwriter AYER.[9]
