**Frederick Stoddard** "**Rick**" **Chaffee II** (born January 10, 1945) is a former [World Cup](/source/FIS_Alpine_Ski_World_Cup) [alpine ski racer](/source/Alpine_skiing) from the [United States](/source/United_States_Ski_Team). He competed in the [Winter Olympics](/source/Alpine_skiing_at_the_Winter_Olympics) in [1968](/source/United_States_at_the_1968_Winter_Olympics#Alpine_skiing) and [1972](/source/United_States_at_the_1972_Winter_Olympics#Alpine_skiing). Chaffee finished ninth in the [slalom](/source/Alpine_skiing_at_the_1968_Winter_Olympics#Slalom) in 1968 to join teammates [Spider Sabich](/source/Spider_Sabich) and [Jimmie Heuga](/source/Jimmie_Heuga) in the top ten.

Born in [Rutland, Vermont](/source/Rutland_County%2C_Vermont), Chaffee raced for the [University of Denver](/source/Denver_Pioneers_ski_team) and won individual and team [NCAA](/source/NCAA_Skiing_Championships) titles;[2] he took the individual titles in [slalom](/source/Slalom_skiing) and the [combined](/source/Alpine_skiing_combined) in [1965](/source/1965_NCAA_Skiing_Championships) at [Crystal Mountain](/source/Crystal_Mountain_(Washington)), [Washington](/source/Washington_(state)),[3][4][5][6] as the [Pioneers](/source/Denver_Pioneers_ski_team) won their fifth of seven consecutive team titles.

His brother Kim, sister [Suzy](/source/Suzy_Chaffee), and cousin [Jon](/source/Jon_Chaffee) are also former competitive skiers.[1]
