# Richard Walsh (bishop)

Roman-catholic bishop

**Richard Walsh** [DD](/source/Doctor_of_Divinity) (b [Gortroe](/source/Gortroe) 1697;[1] d [Cork](/source/Cork_(city)) 1763) was an Irish Roman Catholic Bishop in the eighteenth century.[2]

Walsh was a compromise candidate for the [Bishopric of Cork](/source/Bishop_of_Cork). The two leading candidates were John O’Brien, Parish Priest of [Castlelyons](/source/Castlelyons), and James Butler, nephew of the [Archbishop of Cashel](/source/Archbishop_of_Cashel).[3] He was consecrated on 10 January 1748 and served until his death.[4]
