**Richard Leaf** (born 1 January 1967) is an English actor.

He has had several small parts in television and stage productions. Leaf met actress [Tamsin Greig](/source/Tamsin_Greig) at a [wrap party](/source/Wrap_party) after [Neil Gaiman](/source/Neil_Gaiman)'s 1996 miniseries *[Neverwhere](/source/Neverwhere)* finished recording.[1] They married in 1997 and they have three children.[2][3] The actor is notable for his role as the Governor of [York](/source/York), nephew of [King Edward I](/source/Edward_I_of_England) in [Mel Gibson](/source/Mel_Gibson)'s *[Braveheart](/source/Braveheart)*. He appeared as Hannibal Lecter's father in the 2007 film *[Hannibal Rising](/source/Hannibal_Rising_(film))*.[4] He also appeared as [John Dawlish](/source/Minor_Ministry_officials_in_Harry_Potter#John_Dawlish), an [Auror](/source/Auror), in the film *[Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix](/source/Harry_Potter_and_the_Order_of_the_Phoenix_(film))*,[5] and portrayed Jack, the bartender of the Cloverdilly public house, in the 2006 film *[Penelope](/source/Penelope_(2006_film))*.
