# Richard Ellena

**Victor Richard Ellena** (born 15 January 1951 in [Christchurch](/source/Christchurch)) is a New Zealand Anglican bishop. He was the [Bishop](/source/Bishop) of the [Anglican Diocese of Nelson](/source/Anglican_Diocese_of_Nelson)[1] between 3 February 2007 and his retirement at the end of 2018.

He was educated at the [University of Canterbury](/source/University_of_Canterbury) after which he worked as a [teacher](/source/Teacher) until studying for the [Priesthood](/source/Priesthood). He was [ordained](/source/Ordained) an Anglican priest in 1985 and has held [incumbencies](/source/Vicar) at Kensington-Otipua,[2] [Blenheim](/source/Blenheim,_New_Zealand) and [Marlborough](/source/Marlborough_Region), where he was also the area's [Archdeacon](/source/Archdeacon).[3]

He was consecrated bishop of the Diocese of Nelson at 3 February 2007.[4] An Evangelical Anglican, he is a supporter of the [Anglican realignment](/source/Anglican_realignment), having attended the [Global South](/source/Global_South_(Anglican)) Fourth Encounter, in [Singapore](/source/Singapore), at 19–23 April 2010, and the [GAFCON II](/source/Global_Anglican_Future_Conference), in [Nairobi](/source/Nairobi), [Kenya](/source/Kenya), at 21–26 October 2013.[5]
