**Rho Lupi**, [Latinized](/source/Latinisation_of_names) from **ρ Lupi**, is a solitary[10] [star](/source/Star) in the southern [constellation](/source/Constellation) of [Lupus](/source/Lupus_(constellation)). It is visible to the [naked eye](/source/Naked_eye) with an [apparent visual magnitude](/source/Apparent_visual_magnitude) of 4.05.[2] Based upon an annual [parallax shift](/source/Stellar_parallax) of 10.32 [mas](/source/Milliarcsecond) as seen from Earth, it is located about 316 [light years](/source/Light_year) from the [Sun](/source/Sun). It is a member of the Upper Centaurus–Lupus subgroup of the nearby [Scorpius–Centaurus association](/source/Scorpius%E2%80%93Centaurus_association).[11]

A [light curve](/source/Light_curve) for Rho Lupi, plotted from *[TESS](/source/Transiting_Exoplanet_Survey_Satellite)* data[12]

This is a [B-type main sequence star](/source/B-type_main_sequence_star) with a [stellar classification](/source/Stellar_classification) of B3/4 V.[3] Rho Lupi was discovered to be a [variable star](/source/Variable_star) when the *[Hipparcos](/source/Hipparcos)* data was analyzed.[13] It is a [microvariable](/source/Microvariable) with a period of 10.7 hours and an amplitude of 0.0046 in magnitude.[14] With an age of just 44[6] million years, the star is spinning with a [projected rotational velocity](/source/Projected_rotational_velocity) of 166 km/s.[6] This is giving the star an [oblate](/source/Oblate_spheroid) shape with an [equatorial bulge](/source/Equatorial_bulge) that is an estimated 6% larger than the polar radius.[15] It has an estimated 4.66[6] times the [mass of the Sun](/source/Solar_mass) and about 3.4[7] times the [Sun's radius](/source/Solar_radius). It is radiating 365[8] times the [solar luminosity](/source/Solar_luminosity) from its [outer atmosphere](/source/Stellar_atmosphere) at an [effective temperature](/source/Effective_temperature) of 15,947 K.[6]
