It is located in village of [Kvernevik](/source/Kvernevik) in the borough of [Madla](/source/Madla) in the western part of the [city of Stavanger](/source/Stavanger_(city)). It is the church for the Hafrsfjord [parish](/source/parish) which is part of the [Ytre Stavanger prosti](/source/Ytre_Stavanger_prosti) ([deanery](/source/deanery)) in the [Diocese of Stavanger](/source/Diocese_of_Stavanger). The white, wooden church was built in a [long church](/source/long_church) design in 1864 using designs by the [architect](/source/architect) [Hans Linstow](/source/Hans_Linstow). == Fire ==
The church was partially destroyed by [arson](/source/arson) on 1 August 1992, when two 17-year-old boys broke into the building and set fire to the altar. The church was reopened on 5 April 1994.
