# Return Torrey

**Return Delos Torrey** (March 24, 1835 – November 2, 1893) was an American [miller](/source/Miller) from [Oshkosh](/source/Oshkosh,_Wisconsin), [Wisconsin](/source/Wisconsin), who spent one two-year term (1877–1878) as a member of the [Wisconsin State Senate](/source/Wisconsin_State_Senate) from the [19th District](/source/Wisconsin_Senate,_District_19) ([Winnebago County](/source/Winnebago_County,_Wisconsin)).[1][2][3]

Torrey was born in [Madison, Ohio](/source/Madison,_Ohio). He moved to [Fall River, Wisconsin](/source/Fall_River,_Wisconsin), in 1850, then to [Neenah, Wisconsin](/source/Neenah,_Wisconsin), in 1861. In 1871, Torrey moved to [Oshkosh, Wisconsin](/source/Oshkosh,_Wisconsin). He served as county treasurer of [Winnebago County, Wisconsin](/source/Winnebago_County,_Wisconsin), from 1871 to 1878.[4] He died November 2, 1893, in [Chicago](/source/Chicago), [Illinois](/source/Illinois).[4] He had lived in that city for about ten years, and had become active in its local politics.[4]
