**Retortillo** is a municipality located in the [province of Salamanca](/source/Salamanca_(province)), [Castile and León](/source/Castile_and_Le%C3%B3n), Spain.

## Mine

A [Uranium mine](/source/Uranium_mine) in Retortillo is proposed by Berkeley Minera, an Australian mining company. Being only 50 km to the [Portugal–Spain border](/source/Portugal%E2%80%93Spain_border), a protest was held in Portugal by several Iberian protest groups, they oppose the mine and also marked twentieth anniversary of the mining disaster in Spain known as the [Doñana disaster](/source/Do%C3%B1ana_disaster). The Portuguese government has asked the Spanish government for a meeting regarding the mine.[1][2]
