'''Saint Reticius''' (or ''Rheticus, Rheticius'') ({{langx|fr|Saint Rhétice|link=no}}) (early 4th century) was a [bishop of Autun](/source/bishop_of_Autun), the first one known to history, according to the ''[Catholic Encyclopedia](/source/Catholic_Encyclopedia)''.  He was a [Gallo-Roman](/source/Gallo-Roman), and an ecclesiastical writer, and served as bishop of this see from around 310 to 334 AD.<ref name="catholic">{{cite web|url=http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/02144a.htm|title=Autun|year=2009|publisher=Catholic Encyclopedia|accessdate=April 23, 2009}}</ref>

He traveled on behalf of Emperor [Constantine the Great](/source/Constantine_the_Great) in 313 to the [Synod of Rome](/source/Synod_of_Rome_(313)) and in 314 to the [Synod of Arles](/source/Synod_of_Arles_(314)), in order to bring about a resolution to the dispute with the [Donatists](/source/Donatists).<ref name="heiligen">{{cite web|url= http://www.heiligenlexikon.de/BiographienR/Reticius_von_Autun.html|title=Reticius von Autun |publisher=Ökumenisches Heiligenlexikon|accessdate=April 23, 2009}}</ref>

[Gregory of Tours](/source/Gregory_of_Tours) praised Reticius in his writings.<ref name="heiligen"/>  [Saint Jerome](/source/Saint_Jerome) mentions Reticius in his ''[De Viris Illustribus](/source/De_Viris_Illustribus_(Jerome))'':

:Reticius, bishop of Autun, among the [Aedui](/source/Aedui), had a great reputation in Gaul in the reign of
:Constantine. I have read his commentaries ''On the [Song of Songs](/source/Song_of_Songs)'' and another great volume
