==History==
The cooperative association was registered on 13 October 1944, as "Reshafim Kibutz Hashomer Hatzair Kvutzat Poalim Lehityashvut Shetufit Limited".<ref name="foundation1944">Government of Palestine, The Palestine Gazette, No. 1372, p. 1096, 9 November 1944.</ref> A first settlement was established by [Hashomer Hatzair](/source/Hashomer_Hatzair) members movement in 1947 at [Kiryat Haim](/source/Kiryat_Haim). In 1948 land was allocated to Reshafim from village lands of the [Palestinian](/source/Palestinians) village of [al-Ashrafiyya](/source/al-Ashrafiyya), which was depopulated after 10–11 May during the [1948 Arab–Israeli War](/source/1948_Arab%E2%80%93Israeli_War).<ref>{{cite book |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=uM_kFX6edX8C&pg=PR20 |first=Benny |last=Morris |author-link=Benny Morris |year=2004 |title=The Birth of the Palestinian Refugee Problem Revisited| isbn=978-0-521-00967-6 |publisher=[Cambridge University Press](/source/Cambridge_University_Press) |location=[Cambridge](/source/Cambridge) |page=[https://books.google.com/books?id=uM_kFX6edX8C&pg=PG227 227]}}</ref><ref>{{Cite book|title=All that remains : the Palestinian villages occupied and depopulated by Israel in 1948|date=1992|publisher=Institute for Palestine Studies|others=[Khalidi, Walid](/source/Khalidi%2C_Walid)|isbn=0-88728-224-5|location=Washington, D.C.|oclc=25632612}}</ref> In 1949 the members and their children moved to the permanent location near Beit She'an.

For the first few months at the site, the members of kibbutz Reshafim lived temporarily in a camp jointly with the members of kibbutz [Shluhot](/source/Shluhot) which belonged to the [Orthodox](/source/Orthodox_Judaism) [Religious Kibbutz Movement](/source/Religious_Kibbutz_Movement). The camp was later broken up when both kibbutzim were established adjacent to each other.<ref>[Davar](/source/Davar), 17 June 1949, article in Hebrew: "קיבוץ רשפים עלה למקום התיישותו"</ref>

The founder members were mostly [Holocaust survivor](/source/Holocaust_survivor)s from [Romania](/source/History_of_the_Jews_in_Romania) and Bulgaria. They were joined by a small group of Israeli-born [Sabras](/source/Sabra_(person)), and in 1949 by [Polish](/source/History_of_the_Jews_in_Poland) refugees. In the 1950s a group of [Argentine Jews](/source/History_of_the_Jews_in_Argentina) and another group consisting mostly of [Sephardic Jews](/source/Sephardic_Jews) joined the kibbutz. In the 1960s members were recruited from the Hashomer Hatzair youth movement and the [Nahal](/source/Nahal) from among the descendants of kibbutz members. With the decline of Western socialism and growing economic difficulties in the 1980s and 1990s population numbers stagnated.{{citation needed|date=June 2020}}

==Economy==
At its inception Reshafim was a classical kibbutz where all the means of production belonged to the commune and members received equal shares of services, products, and money as remuneration. During the 1990s a process of privatization began, culminating in members receiving salaries and having to pay for services.

In 2022 the commune still owns a dairy, orchards, fresh-water fishery, [solar power](/source/solar_power) installations, is partner in a chicken farm, an agricultural co-operative, and in a production facility for [medicinal cannabis](/source/medicinal_cannabis). It has sold all its shares in the Terraflex Industries plastics factory, but continued to own and lease its installations.<ref>{{cite web |url=https://www.bloomberg.com/research/stocks/private/snapshot.asp?privcapId=52350212 |title=Company Overview of Terraflex Industries |publisher=Bloomberg |access-date=23 April 2019}}</ref> The vast majority of the kibbutz members have found employment outside the kibbutz.
