**Requena** is one of the eight [provinces](/source/Provinces_of_Peru) in the [Loreto Region](/source/Loreto_Region) of [Peru](/source/Peru). It was created by Law No. 9815 on July 2, 1943 by president [Manuel Prado Ugarteche](/source/Manuel_Prado_Ugarteche).[1] Its territory is part of the [Amazon rainforest](/source/Amazon_rainforest); as such, it is characterized by high temperatures, heavy rainfall and a wide diversity of plants and animals.[2]
