**Reiko Shiota** (潮田 玲子, *Shiota Reiko*; born 30 September 1983) is a Japanese [badminton](/source/Badminton) player, affiliated with the [Sanyo electric](/source/Sanyo) team. Shiota was the bronze medallist at the [2007 World Championships](/source/2007_BWF_World_Championships) in the women's doubles event partnered with [Kumiko Ogura](/source/Kumiko_Ogura). She also won the silver and bronze medals at the [2006 Asian Games](/source/Badminton_at_the_2006_Asian_Games) in the women's team and doubles respectively. Shiota competed at the [Olympic Games](/source/Badminton_at_the_Summer_Olympics) two times, in [2008 Beijing](/source/Badminton_at_the_2008_Summer_Olympics) in the women's doubles event with Ogura, and in [2012 London](/source/Badminton_at_the_2012_Summer_Olympics) in the mixed doubles event partnered with [Shintaro Ikeda](/source/Shintaro_Ikeda).

## Career

Shiota was born in [Kanda, Fukuoka](/source/Kanda%2C_Fukuoka), and after graduating from the Kyushu International University High School in 2002, she joined the Sanyo Electric team.[1] Partnered with [Kumiko Ogura](/source/Kumiko_Ogura), they were popularly known as *"Ogushio"* and became the women's doubles runner-up at the [2005 Asian Championships](/source/2005_Asian_Badminton_Championships). She and Ogura won their first world grand prix title at the [2005 Denmark Open](/source/2005_Denmark_Open). In 2006, they won the women's doubles bronze medal at the [Doha 2006 Asian Games](/source/Badminton_at_the_2006_Asian_Games_%E2%80%93_Women's_doubles), after being defeated by [Yang Wei](/source/Yang_Wei_(badminton)) and Zhang Jiewen in the semi-finals. Shiota also helped the Japanese women's team win the silver medal in the women's team event.[2]

Shiota won the women's doubles bronze medal in the [2007 World Championships](/source/2007_BWF_World_Championships) in [Kuala Lumpur](/source/Kuala_Lumpur), Malaysia. Ogushio were defeated in the semifinals by [Gao Ling](/source/Gao_Ling) and [Huang Sui](/source/Huang_Sui) of [China](/source/China), 16–21, 25–23, 6–21. In May 2008, she and Ogura ranked 6 in [BWF World Ranking](/source/BWF_World_Ranking), and qualified to compete at the [Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics](/source/Badminton_at_the_2008_Summer_Olympics).[2] In the first round they beat the Danish pair [Lena Frier Kristiansen](/source/Lena_Frier_Kristiansen) and [Kamilla Rytter Juhl](/source/Kamilla_Rytter_Juhl) in the rubber games, but were defeated by [Du Jing](/source/Du_Jing) and [Yu Yang](/source/Yu_Yang_(badminton)) of China in the second round in straight games.[3]

In 2009, she started to team up with [Shintaro Ikeda](/source/Shintaro_Ikeda) from Unisys, and in May 2010, Shiota also joined the Unisys team.[4] In November 2010, she served as the flag bearer for the Japanese delegation at the [Asian Games](/source/2010_Asian_Games) in [Guangzhou](/source/Guangzhou).[5] Shiota and Ikeda popularly known as *"Ikeshio"*, reached the final round at the 2010 [Dutch Open](/source/Dutch_Open_(badminton)), 2011 [German](/source/German_Open_(badminton)) and [Russian Open](/source/Russian_Open_(badminton)), and also in the [BWF Superseries](/source/BWF_Superseries) tournament at the [2012 Singapore Open](/source/2012_Singapore_Super_Series), but they only finished as the runner-up. The Ikeshio-combi participated in the [2012 Olympic Games](/source/Badminton_at_the_2012_Summer_Olympics) in [London](/source/London), but the duo did not advance to the knock-out stage, after placing third in the group stage. In the competition, they won a match against the Canadian pair [Toby Ng](/source/Toby_Ng) and [Grace Gao](/source/Grace_Gao_(badminton)) in the rubber game with the score 21–10, 11–21, 21–15, and lost in straight games to [Joachim Fischer Nielsen](/source/Joachim_Fischer_Nielsen) and [Christinna Pedersen](/source/Christinna_Pedersen) of Denmark, and [Robert Mateusiak](/source/Robert_Mateusiak) and [Nadieżda Kostiuczyk](/source/Nadie%C5%BCda_Kostiuczyk) of Poland in group B stage.

On September 30, 2012 she married the [footballer](/source/Association_football) [Tatsuya Masushima](/source/Tatsuya_Masushima).[6][7]
