**Rehoboth Rural** is an [electoral constituency](/source/Constituencies_of_Namibia) in the [Hardap](/source/Hardap_Region) region of [Namibia](/source/Namibia). It had a population of 7,288 in 2011, down from 7,524 in 2001. Rehoboth Rural covers an area of 10,959 km2 (4,231 sq mi).[1] The constituency office is in [Schlip](/source/Schlip).[2] Other settlements in Rehoboth Rural are [Klein Aub](/source/Klein_Aub), [Khauxas](/source/Khauxas) and [Rietoog](/source/Rietoog).[3] As of 2020[\[update\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Rehoboth_Rural&action=edit), the constituency had 4,701 registered voters.[4]

## Politics

Rehoboth Rural is traditionally a stronghold of the [South West Africa People's Organization](/source/South_West_Africa_People's_Organization) (SWAPO) party.

### Regional elections

In the [2004 regional election](/source/2004_Namibian_local_and_regional_elections), SWAPO candidate Trougott Claassen received 1,035 of the 2,217 votes cast and became councillor.[5]

The [2015 regional elections](/source/Namibian_local_and_regional_elections%2C_2015) were won by Riaan Charles McNab of [SWAPO](/source/SWAPO) with 1,113 votes. Petrus Johannes Mouton of the [United People's Movement](/source/United_People's_Movement_(Namibia)) (UPM) came second with 389 votes, followed by Norbet Ralph Ludwig (RDP, 202 votes) and Samuel Benjamin de Groot (DTA, 141 votes).[6] The [2020 regional election](/source/2020_Namibian_local_and_regional_elections) was narrowly won by Gershon Dausab of the [Landless People's Movement](/source/Landless_People's_Movement_(Namibia)) (LPM, a new party registered in 2018). He obtained 935 votes. The sitting councillor McNab (SWAPO) came second with 745 votes.[7]

### Presidential elections

In the [2009 presidential elections](/source/Namibian_general_election%2C_2009), 2,512 residents cast a ballot. [Katuutire Kaura](/source/Katuutire_Kaura) of the [Democratic Turnhalle Alliance](/source/Democratic_Turnhalle_Alliance) (DTA) won the constituency with 1,114 total votes (44.3%). Behind Kaura were [Frans Migub ǀGoagoseb](/source/Frans_Migub_%C7%80Goagoseb) of the [Namibian Democratic Movement for Change](/source/Namibian_Democratic_Movement_for_Change) (674 votes or 26.8%) and [Hidipo Hamutenya](/source/Hidipo_Hamutenya) of the [Rally for Democracy and Progress](/source/Rally_for_Democracy_and_Progress_(Namibia)) (RDP) placed 3rd with 332 votes (13.2%). Incumbent President, [SWAPO](/source/SWAPO) candidate and winner of 75.1% of all votes nationally [Hifikepunye Pohamba](/source/Hifikepunye_Pohamba) received only 19 votes for less than 1% of the total vote in the constituency; it was the only constituency in the country which gave Pohamba less than 900 votes.[8]
