==History==
The village of Redi Doti was officially founded in 1930 when a Roman Catholic church was constructed. However, in 1828, an indigenous village of about 50 people was reported to exist near Jodensavanne,<ref name="jodensavanne"/> a Jewish autonomous plantation area which was abandoned after a fire in 1832.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.suriname.nu/201cult/joodsgem01.html|title=Jodensavanna en de Joodse gemeenten|access-date=14 February 2021|language=nl|website=Suriname.nu}}</ref>

In the late 1980s, during the [Surinamese Interior War](/source/Surinamese_Interior_War), the village was evacuated and partially destroyed.<ref>{{cite news|url=https://www.dbsuriname.com/2018/06/07/dag-van-nationale-rouw-op-28-juni-te-redi-doti/ |title=Dag van Nationale Rouw op 28 juni te Redi Doti|website=Dagblad Suriname|access-date=14 February 2021|language=nl}}</ref> The village was rebuilt in 1992; however, many inhabitants have remained in [Paramaribo](/source/Paramaribo).<ref name="jodensavanne"/>

==Overview==

In 2015, a new school building was constructed.<ref>{{cite news|url=https://www.dbsuriname.com/2015/02/13/redi-doti-krijgt-nieuw-schoolgebouw/ |title=Redi Doti krijgt nieuw schoolgebouw|website=Dagblad Suriname|access-date=14 February 2021|language=nl}}</ref> The [pineapple](/source/pineapple) industry is the main source of income for the village.<ref>{{cite news|url=https://fathh.com/suriname/nieuws/76241/ananas-hoofdmiddel-van-bestaan-redi-doti.html|title=Ananas hoofdmiddel van bestaan Redi Doti|website=De Ware Tijd via Fathh.com|access-date=14 February 2021|language=nl}}{{Dead link|date=August 2025 |bot=InternetArchiveBot |fix-attempted=yes }}</ref> The village has 9,000 hectares of communal forest for hunting, fishing and [subsistence farming](/source/subsistence_farming).<ref name="jodensavanne"/> In 2019, Marchano Stuger was elected as the new village chief.<ref name="captain"/>

==Transport==
The village used be accessed via the Carolinabrug, which provided access to the [Avobakaweg](/source/Avobakaweg) to [Paramaribo](/source/Paramaribo). However, the bridge was damaged after it was hit by a boat, and in 2014, a new bridge was constructed near Redi Doti.<ref>{{cite news|url=https://www.waterkant.net/suriname/2014/12/24/ingebruikname-van-de-nieuwe-carolinabrug/|title=Ingebruikname van de nieuwe Carolinabrug|website=Waterkant|access-date=14 February 2021|language=nl}}</ref>
