'''Wresley''' "'''Red'''" '''Rush II''' (July 2, 1927 – January 11, 2009) was an American [sportscaster](/source/sportscaster).<ref>{{Cite news|url=https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-2009-01-15-0901140868-story.html|title=Wesley 'Red' Rush II: 1928-2009|last=McGrath|first=Dan|newspaper=Chicago Tribune|date=January 15, 2009}}</ref>

A native of [Long Beach](/source/Long_Beach%2C_California), [California](/source/California), Rush (nicknamed for his shock of red hair) attended the [University of Southern California](/source/University_of_Southern_California) where he developed his interest in broadcasting. Rush did play-by-play for several [Major League Baseball](/source/Major_League_Baseball) teams, including the [Kansas City A's](/source/Kansas_City_A's) (1965), [Chicago White Sox](/source/Chicago_White_Sox) (1967–70), [Oakland A's](/source/Oakland_A's) (1971, 1979–80), and [St. Louis Cardinals](/source/St._Louis_Cardinals) (1984).

With the White Sox, and with the 1971 A's, Rush worked with Hall of Fame voice [Bob Elson](/source/Bob_Elson), providing raw enthusiasm and excitement to the broadcast in contrast to the more laconic Elson. It is said that A's owner [Charlie Finley](/source/Charlie_Finley) hired and fired Rush three times.

From the '60s to the late '80s, Rush was the voice of the [Loyola University](/source/Loyola_Ramblers) Ramblers men's college basketball team, and made the famous call of their [1963 NCAA National Championship](/source/1963_NCAA_Men's_Division_I_Basketball_Tournament) ("WE WIN! WE WIN!"). He also called games for [Northwestern University](/source/Northwestern_Wildcats_football) football, [DePaul University](/source/DePaul_Blue_Demons_men's_basketball) basketball, the [Chicago Cougars](/source/Chicago_Cougars) of the [World Hockey Association](/source/World_Hockey_Association) (TV only) and the [Minneapolis Lakers](/source/Minneapolis_Lakers) and [Golden State Warriors](/source/Golden_State_Warriors) of the [NBA](/source/National_Basketball_Association).
