'''Reci''' ({{langx|hu|Réty}}, <small>Hungarian pronunciation</small>: {{convertIPA-hu|’|r|é|ty}}) is a commune in [Covasna County](/source/Covasna_County), [Transylvania](/source/Transylvania), [Romania](/source/Romania) composed of four villages: Aninoasa (''Egerpatak''), Bita (''Bita''), Reci, and Saciova (''Szacsva''). It also included the village of Comolău (''Komolló'') until 1968, when it was disestablished.

== Geography ==
The commune is situated in the {{ill|Brașov Depression|ro|Depresiunea Brașovului}}, in the historical [Székely Land](/source/Sz%C3%A9kely_Land) region of southeastern Transylvania. It is positioned southeast of the {{ill|Bodoc Mountains|ro|Munții Bodoc}}, at an altitude of {{cvt|548|m}}, on the banks of the [Râul Negru](/source/R%C3%A2ul_Negru) and its tributaries, the rivers [Covasna](/source/Covasna_(R%C3%A2ul_Negru)) and [Pădureni](/source/P%C4%83dureni_(R%C3%A2ul_Negru)).

Reci is located in the southern part of Covasna County, in between the county seat, [Sfântu Gheorghe](/source/Sf%C3%A2ntu_Gheorghe), {{cvt|13|km}} to the west, the town of [Covasna](/source/Covasna), {{cvt|22|km}} to the east, and the city of [Târgu Secuiesc](/source/T%C3%A2rgu_Secuiesc), {{cvt|27|km}} to the northeast. It is crossed by [national road](/source/Roads_in_Romania) {{ill|DN13E|ro}}, which starts in [Întorsura Buzăului](/source/%C3%8Entorsura_Buz%C4%83ului), at the southern limit of the county, passes through Covasna and Sfântu Gheorghe, and ends in [Feldioara](/source/Feldioara), {{cvt|38|km}} to the west, in [Brașov County](/source/Bra%C8%99ov_County). At the western end of the commune is the {{ill|DN11|ro}} road (part of [European route E574](/source/European_route_E574)), which starts in [Brașov](/source/Bra%C8%99ov), passes through Târgu Secuiesc and [Onești](/source/One%C8%99ti), and ends in [Bacău](/source/Bac%C4%83u). The Bita train station serves the [CFR](/source/C%C4%83ile_Ferate_Rom%C3%A2ne) [Line 404](/source/C%C4%83ile_Ferate_Rom%C3%A2ne_Line_400), which connects Sfântu Gheorghe to Covasna.

== History ==
A [Roman](/source/Roman_Empire) settlement (the [Castra of Reci](/source/Castra_of_Reci)) was discovered in Comolău village (now part of Reci); dating from the 4th century, the [castra](/source/castra) belonged to the [Sântana de Mureș culture](/source/Chernyakhov_culture). A settlement and a grave from the 10th&ndash;11th centuries were discovered on the right bank of the Râul Negru. Until 1918, the village belonged to the [Háromszék County](/source/H%C3%A1romsz%C3%A9k_County) of [Austro-Hungary](/source/Austro-Hungary). In the immediate aftermath of [World War I](/source/World_War_I), following the declaration of the [Union of Transylvania with Romania](/source/Union_of_Transylvania_with_Romania), the area passed under Romanian administration during the [Hungarian–Romanian War](/source/Hungarian%E2%80%93Romanian_War) of 1918–1919. By the terms of the [Treaty of Trianon](/source/Treaty_of_Trianon) of 1920, it became part of the [Kingdom of Romania](/source/Kingdom_of_Romania).

In 1925, the commune fell within [Plasa](/source/Plas%C4%83) [Covasna](/source/Covasna) of [Trei Scaune County](/source/Trei_Scaune_County). In August 1940, under the auspices of [Nazi Germany](/source/Nazi_Germany), which imposed the [Second Vienna Award](/source/Second_Vienna_Award), [Hungary](/source/Kingdom_of_Hungary_(1920%E2%80%931946)) retook the territory of [Northern Transylvania](/source/Northern_Transylvania) (which included Reci) from Romania. Towards the end of [World War II](/source/World_War_II), however, the commune was taken back from Hungarian and [German](/source/Nazi_Germany) troops by Romanian and [Soviet](/source/Soviet_Union) forces in September 1944. In 1950, after [Communist Romania](/source/Socialist_Republic_of_Romania) was established, Reci became part of the Târgu Secuiesc [Raion](/source/Raion) of [Stalin Region](/source/Stalin_Region). From 1952 and 1960, it was part of the [Magyar Autonomous Region](/source/Magyar_Autonomous_Region), and between 1960 and 1968 it reverted to [Brașov Region](/source/Stalin_Region). In 1968, when Romania was reorganized based on counties rather than regions, Reci became part of Covasna County.

The commune has an absolute [Székely](/source/Sz%C3%A9kelys) [Hungarian](/source/Hungarians_in_Romania) majority. According to the 2002 census, it had a population of 2,234, of which 98.88% or 2,209 were Hungarians.
