Rebstein has an area, {{as of|2006|lc=on}}, of {{convert|4.3|km2|sqmi|abbr=on}}.  Of this area, 60.4% is used for agricultural purposes, while 7.9% is forested.  Of the rest of the land, 30.6% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (1.2%) is non-productive (rivers or lakes).<ref name=SFSO/>

The municipality is located in the Rheintal ''Wahlkreis''.  It stretches from the ''Rheintaler Binnenkanal'' (a flood control canal on the Rhine) to the Appenzell foothills.

There were 251 (or 6.2%) people who lived in single parent home, while there are 31 persons who were adult children living with one or both parents, 14 persons who lived in a household made up of relatives, 20 who lived household made up of unrelated persons, and 106 who are either institutionalized or live in another type of collective housing.<ref name=SG_personen/>
