**Rebecca Ann Thomas** (born December 10, 1984) is an American filmmaker and television director, best known for writing and directing the film *[Electrick Children](/source/Electrick_Children)* and episodic television, including *[Stranger Things](/source/Stranger_Things)*, *[Limetown](/source/Limetown_(TV_series))*, and *[When the Streetlights Go On](/source/When_the_Streetlights_Go_On).*

## Personal life

Thomas was raised as a member of [the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints](/source/The_Church_of_Jesus_Christ_of_Latter-day_Saints) in [Las Vegas](/source/Las_Vegas); she served a [mission](/source/Mission_(LDS_Church)) for 18 months in Japan.[1] She is married to Mark Garbett (of [The Moth & The Flame](/source/The_Moth_%26_The_Flame)).

## Directing career

Thomas' short film called "Nobody Knows You, Nobody Gives a Damn" premiered at the 2009 [Sundance Film Festival](/source/Sundance_Film_Festival).[2]

Her debut feature, *[Electrick Children](/source/Electrick_Children)*, debuted at the [Berlin International Film Festival](/source/Berlin_International_Film_Festival) on 10 February 2012.[3] It also played in the U.S. at the [South by Southwest](/source/South_by_Southwest) Film Festival on 15 March 2012.[4]

Thomas directed episode seven, "The Lost Sister", of the second season of the [Netflix](/source/Netflix) series, *[Stranger Things](/source/Stranger_Things)*.[5] The episode received some negative reception, with Tom Philip for [GQ](/source/GQ) writing, "Easily the worst episode Stranger Things has ever produced, and arguably among the worst in TV history."[6]

Thomas directed all 10 episodes of *[Limetown](/source/Limetown_(TV_series))*, starring Jessica Biel, and also directed all 10 episodes of *[When the Streetlights Go On](/source/When_the_Streetlights_Go_On)*.[7]
