Swann made his debut in [county cricket](/source/county_cricket) for [Northumberland](/source/Northumberland_County_Cricket_Club), in the 1969 [Minor Counties Championship](/source/Minor_Counties_Championship) against [Cheshire](/source/Cheshire_County_Cricket_Club). Seventeen years after his last Minor counties appearance, Swann joined [Bedfordshire](/source/Bedfordshire_County_Cricket_Club), making his Minor Counties Championship debut for the county against his former county Northumberland. With the ball, he took 2 wickets at a [bowling average](/source/bowling_average) of 31.00, with best figures of 2/50.

==Family and personal life==
Swann has two cricketing sons.  His younger son [Graeme](/source/Graeme_Swann) represented Bedfordshire, [Northamptonshire](/source/Northamptonshire_County_Cricket_Club), [Nottinghamshire](/source/Nottinghamshire_County_Cricket_Club) and [England](/source/England_national_cricket_team) and was a [Wisden Cricketer of the Year](/source/Wisden_Cricketers_of_the_Year) in 2010.  His elder son [Alec](/source/Alec_Swann) has also represented Bedfordshire and played first-class cricket for Northamptonshire and [Lancashire](/source/Lancashire_County_Cricket_Club).  He previously taught [P.E.](/source/Physical_education) and mathematics at [Sponne School](/source/Sponne_School), [Towcester](/source/Towcester) and Lings Upper school Northampton. He then taught mathematics and geography at Akeley Wood School.
