'''Raymond John Novotny Sr.''' (October 12, 1907 – May 30, 1995) was an American [football](/source/American_football) player and coach.  He played professionally with the [Portsmouth Spartans](/source/Portsmouth_Spartans), [Cleveland Indians](/source/Cleveland_Indians_(NFL_1931)) and [Brooklyn Dodgers](/source/Brooklyn_Dodgers_(NFL)) of the [National Football League](/source/National_Football_League) (NFL). Prior to playing in the NFL, Novotny played [college football](/source/college_football) at [Ashland University](/source/Ashland_University). While at Ashland, he earned [All-American](/source/College_Football_All-America_Team) honors in 1929. In 1934, he returned to Ashland to serve as the school's football coach. He also served as the baseball coach for the 1935 season.
