# Ray Hester

**Ray Hester** (March 31, 1949 – May 15, 1977) was an American professional [football](/source/American_football) player who played [linebacker](/source/Linebacker) for the [New Orleans Saints](/source/New_Orleans_Saints) from 1971 to 1973, and [The Hawaiians](/source/The_Hawaiians_(WFL)) of the [WFL](/source/World_Football_League) in 1974.[1][2] He was diagnosed with [leukemia](/source/Leukemia) in 1975.[3] He died from leukemia at the age of 28.[3]
