American film director and actor (1890–1925)

**Raymond Standish Grey** (February 19, 1890 – April 18, 1925) was an American film director, actor, screenwriter. He was the father of actress [Virginia Grey](/source/Virginia_Grey).

## Life

Grey was born in [San Diego, California](/source/San_Diego%2C_California).

Grey got his start as an actor in [Mack Sennett](/source/Mack_Sennett)'s [Keystone Studios](/source/Keystone_Studios) films. His acting debut was in *[A Movie Star](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=A_Movie_Star&action=edit&redlink=1)* (1916).[1] In the early 1920s, he switched off between being the main director of features and being a second unit or [assistant director](/source/Assistant_director);[2] such as with the film *[Molly O'](/source/Molly_O_(1921_film))* (1921), Flickering Youth (1924),[3] and Salome and Shenandoah.[4]

Grey is buried at [Forest Lawn](/source/Forest_Lawn_Memorial_Park_(Glendale)) in Glendale.[6]
