'''Raymond Daniel Goolsby''' (September 5, 1919 – November 13, 1999) was an American professional [baseball](/source/baseball) player. His career, interrupted by [World War II](/source/World_War_II), lasted for only four seasons, but included three [games played](/source/games_played) in [Major League Baseball](/source/Major_League_Baseball) for the {{mlby|1946}} [Washington Senators](/source/Washington_Senators_(1901%E2%80%9360)). Nicknamed "Ox" and an [outfielder](/source/outfielder) by trade, he was listed as {{convert|6|ft|1|in}} tall and {{convert|185|lb}}; he threw and batted right-handed.

Goolsby was born in [Florala, Alabama](/source/Florala%2C_Alabama), and his family moved to [Central Florida](/source/Central_Florida) in 1925 when he turned six. He entered pro ball in 1939 and played three seasons in the [Florida State League](/source/Florida_State_League), then a Class D circuit at the lowest level of Organized Baseball. In 1942, he joined the U.S. military; his obituary states that he served in the [United States Navy](/source/United_States_Navy), but, according to [Baseball in Wartime](/source/Baseball_in_Wartime), he served in the [United States Army](/source/United_States_Army).<ref>[https://www.baseballinwartime.com/those_who_served/those_who_served.htm Bedingfield, Gary], [Baseball in Wartime](/source/Baseball_in_Wartime)</ref>

In 1946, the first postwar season, [MLB](/source/MLB) rosters were temporarily expanded to accommodate returning military veterans resuming their baseball careers; teams carried 36 players until June 15. Goolsby broke [spring training](/source/spring_training) camp with Washington and appeared in three mid-April games: on the 18th and 19th as a [pinch hitter](/source/pinch_hitter), and on the 22nd as the Senators' starting [left fielder](/source/left_fielder). In those three contests, he had four [at bat](/source/at_bat)s without a [hit](/source/hit_(baseball)), with one [walk](/source/base_on_balls) and one [sacrifice](/source/sacrifice_bunt). He then played the rest of the year at [Double-A](/source/Double-A_(baseball)) [Chattanooga](/source/Chattanooga_Lookouts), [hitting](/source/batting_average_(baseball)) .306 in 99 games.

Goolsby, then 27, left baseball after the 1946 season. He worked in the citrus industry, rising to manager. He died in [Apopka, Florida](/source/Apopka%2C_Florida), at the age of 80. His wife was Lucy R. Goolsby, whom he married {{nowrap|November 1, 1940}} in Apopka.
