'''Raymond Osborn Ferris''' (22 September 1920 – 1 February 1994) was a Northern Irish professional [footballer](/source/association_football) who played as a [left half](/source/Wing_half). He played nearly 200 games in [the Football League](/source/the_Football_League) for [Crewe Alexandra](/source/Crewe_Alexandra_F.C.) and [Birmingham City](/source/Birmingham_City_F.C.), and won three [international caps](/source/cap_(sport)) for [Northern Ireland](/source/Northern_Ireland_national_football_team).<ref name="Hugman" /> His father, [James](/source/Jimmy_Ferris), had also been an international footballer.

Born in [Newry](/source/Newry), [County Down](/source/County_Down), Ferris spent short trial spells at [Irish League](/source/Irish_Football_League) clubs [Distillery](/source/Lisburn_Distillery_F.C.) and [Glentoran](/source/Glentoran_F.C.) before crossing to England where he signed [amateur](/source/amateur) forms for [Brentford](/source/Brentford_F.C.). By the time the Second World War broke out he was playing [non-league football](/source/non-league_football) for [Cambridge Town](/source/Cambridge_Town_F.C.) and then moved to [Linfield](/source/Linfield_F.C.).<ref name="White">{{Cite book|title=100 Years Of Brentford|publisher=Brentford FC|year=1989|isbn=978-0951526200|editor-last=White|editor-first=Eric|pages=170}}</ref> During the war he made guest appearances for [Tottenham Hotspur](/source/Tottenham_Hotspur_F.C.), [West Ham United](/source/West_Ham_United_F.C.) and former club Brentford.<ref name="White" />

After the war he signed professionally for [Crewe Alexandra](/source/Crewe_Alexandra_F.C.), for whom he played over 100 times. He then moved to [First Division](/source/Football_League_First_Division) club [Birmingham City](/source/Birmingham_City_F.C.), for whom he also made over 100 appearances. He was a hard-working, hard-tackling type of half-back with great determination. In the closed season of 1953 he went on a representative tour with the [IFA](/source/Irish_Football_Association) to the United States and Canada, where he sustained a leg injury that eventually ended his career. Though he played for [Worcester City](/source/Worcester_City_F.C.) in the [Southern League](/source/Southern_Football_League) for one more season, he was forced to retire in 1954.

Ferris died in a Manchester nursing home in February 1994, aged 73.<ref name="Hugman">{{Hugman|6332|access-date=20 June 2016}}</ref> His legs had been amputated due to circulation problems.
