He is best known for his roles as DS [Geoff Daly](/source/Geoff_Daly) in *[The Bill](/source/The_Bill)* from 1996 to 2000, and [Ronnie Marsden](/source/List_of_Emmerdale_characters_(2003)#Ronnie_Marsden) on *[Emmerdale](/source/Emmerdale)* from March to December 2003. ## Career In the late 1970s Ashcroft was the frontman of The Push, a [Sheffield](/source/Sheffield) band.[1] He started acting in [repertory theatre](/source/Repertory_theatre) before working in television and film productions.
