'''Ray''' is a [ghost town](/source/ghost_town) in [Pinal County](/source/Pinal_County%2C_Arizona), [Arizona](/source/Arizona), United States; it is mostly known for the large [copper mine](/source/copper_mine) there. It was named after the nearby [Ray mine](/source/Ray_mine), which was begun by the Ray Copper Company in 1882, after the sister of one of the miners, whose name was Bullinger.<ref name=usgs />

The town of [Kearny](/source/Kearny%2C_Arizona) was founded by the [Kennecott Mining Company](/source/Kennecott_Utah_Copper_Corporation) in 1958 as a [planned community](/source/planned_community) to accommodate the populations of Ray, [Barcelona](/source/Barcelona%2C_Arizona) and [Sonora](/source/Sonora%2C_Arizona), which were about to be enveloped by Kennecott's copper mine.  Relocation to Kearny began in 1958.

The [Copper Basin Railway](/source/Copper_Basin_Railway) ran through the town.
