The '''Rance''' ({{IPA|fr|ʁɑ̃s|-|LL-Q150 (fra)-VictorDtmtc-rance.wav}}; {{langx|br|Renk}}, {{IPA|br|ˈrẽŋk|}}) is a river of northwestern France. It is {{convert|103.6|km|mi|abbr=on}} long.<ref name=sandre>{{sandre|id=J0--0160|nom=La Rance}}</ref> The semi-tidal river flows into the [English Channel](/source/English_Channel) between [Dinard](/source/Dinard) and [Saint-Malo](/source/Saint-Malo).

Before reaching the Channel, its waters are barred by a 750 metre long dam forming the [Rance tidal power plant](/source/Rance_tidal_power_plant).

The river is linked to the [Vilaine](/source/Vilaine) by means of the [Canal d'Ille-et-Rance](/source/Canal_d'Ille-et-Rance).

''[Départements](/source/Departments_of_France)'' and towns along the river:
* [Côtes-d'Armor](/source/C%C3%B4tes-d'Armor): [Collinée](/source/Collin%C3%A9e), [Caulnes](/source/Caulnes), [Dinan](/source/Dinan)
* [Ille-et-Vilaine](/source/Ille-et-Vilaine): [Dinard](/source/Dinard), [Saint-Malo](/source/Saint-Malo)

==Hydrology and water quality==
[Tributaries](/source/Tributaries) of the Rance include:
* Croqueloir
* Clergé
* Fremeur
* Quinéford

This river has moderate [turbidity](/source/turbidity) and its brownish water is somewhat low in velocity due to the slight gradient of the watercourse; [pH](/source/pH) levels have been measured at 8.13<ref>Hogan, C. Michael, ''Water quality of freshwater bodies in France'', Lumina Press, Aberdeen, Scotland(2006)</ref> within the city of [Dinan](/source/Dinan) and [electrical conductivity](/source/electrical_conductivity) of the waters have tested at 33 micro-siemens per centimetre.  At this reference location, summer flows are typically in the range of {{convert|500|cuft/s|m3/s|order=flip}}.{{fact|date=September 2022}}
