# Ralph Legall

**Ralph Archibald Legall** (1 December 1925 – 2003) was a [West Indian](/source/West_Indies_cricket_team) [cricketer](/source/Cricket) who played in four [Tests](/source/Test_cricket) in [1953](/source/Indian_cricket_team_in_West_Indies_in_1952-53).

Legall played as a wicket-keeper and middle-order batsman for [Trinidad](/source/Trinidad_cricket_team) from 1946–47 to 1957–58. His highest score was 68, the top score in Trinidad's first innings of their victory over [Jamaica](/source/Jamaica_cricket_team) in 1954–55.[1] He replaced [Alfred Binns](/source/Alfred_Binns) as the West Indies wicket-keeper after the First Test against [India](/source/India_cricket_team) in 1952-53 and played the last four Tests of the series.[2]

In 1960 he played for [Church](/source/Church_Cricket_Club) in the [Lancashire League](/source/Lancashire_League_(cricket)).[3] He then went to Canada.[4]

Legall also played [Davis Cup](/source/Davis_Cup) tennis: for the [British Caribbean](/source/Caribbean/West_Indies_Davis_Cup_team) team against the US and Canada in 1954 and 1956. He is one of only two people to play both Test cricket and Davis Cup tennis. The other is [Cotah Ramaswami](/source/Cotah_Ramaswami) of India.[4] By a coincidence, Ramaswami managed the Indian team against which Legall played his Test matches.[5]

There is mystery surrounding Legall's death: he is variously reported to have died in [Toronto](/source/Toronto), [New York state](/source/New_York_(state)) or [Trinidad](/source/Trinidad), and probably in February 2003.[4]
