# Ralph Capron

**Ralph Earl Capron** (June 16, 1889 – September 19, 1980) was an American [baseball](/source/Baseball) and [football](/source/American_football) player. He played [Major League Baseball](/source/Major_League_Baseball) as an [outfielder](/source/Outfielder) for the [Pittsburgh Pirates](/source/Pittsburgh_Pirates) in and the [Philadelphia Phillies](/source/Philadelphia_Phillies) in . He also played football in [1920](/source/1920_Chicago_Tigers_season) for the [Chicago Tigers](/source/Chicago_Tigers) of the American Professional Football Association (later renamed the [National Football League](/source/National_Football_League)).

Capron was born in 1889 in [Minneapolis](/source/Minneapolis). He played high school football, first at South High School in Minneapolis and later at West High.[1][2][3]

In 1911, he played college football at the [University of Minnesota](/source/University_of_Minnesota).[4][5]

In March 1912, Capron signed to play professional baseball with the [Pittsburgh Pirates](/source/Pittsburgh_Pirates).[6] He was assigned to the Milwaukee club where he garnered a comparison to [Ty Cobb](/source/Ty_Cobb) after batting .341 and stealing three bases in his first 10 professional games.[7]

Capron died on September 19, 1980. He was interred at [Forest Lawn Memorial Park (Hollywood Hills)](/source/Forest_Lawn_Memorial_Park_(Hollywood_Hills)).[8]
