**Nick Ralph Amoussou** (born 3 May 1989) is a French actor. He is known for his roles such as Séby on the [Netflix](/source/Netflix) series *[Marianne](/source/Marianne_(TV_series))* (2019), Samuel Becker on the [OCS](/source/OCS_(TV_channel)) series *[Missions](/source/Missions_(TV_series))* (2019–2021), Paul on the Netflix series *[Transatlantic](/source/Transatlantic_(TV_series))* (2023), and the musketeer Hannibal in the film *[The Three Musketeers: Milady](/source/The_Three_Musketeers%3A_Milady)* (2023). For his performance in the 2008 film *[With a Little Help from Myself](/source/With_a_Little_Help_from_Myself)*, he was nominated for a [César Award for Most Promising Actor](/source/C%C3%A9sar_Award_for_Most_Promising_Actor).

## Early life

Amoussou was born in Paris and raised in Benin and Nigeria until he was twelve years old.[3] His mother named him after American civil rights activist [Ralph Abernathy](/source/Ralph_Abernathy) and American writer [Ralph Ellison](/source/Ralph_Ellison).[1] His maternal grandmother is an Ethiopian Jew, and his maternal grandfather is from the former [Kingdom of Dahomey](/source/Kingdom_of_Dahomey), in present-day [Benin](/source/Benin).[4]

Amoussou started acting as a teenager and landed his first role at fifteen.[5] He trained at the [Susan Batson Studio](/source/Susan_Batson) in New York.[6]

Amoussou grew up [bilingual](/source/Bilingual), speaking French and English.[7][3]

## Career

His performance in the 2008 film *[With a Little Help from Myself](/source/With_a_Little_Help_from_Myself)* earned him a nomination for [Most Promising Actor](/source/C%C3%A9sar_Award_for_Most_Promising_Actor) at the [34th César Awards](/source/34th_C%C3%A9sar_Awards).[8]

In 2016 he appeared in the short *Victorine* starring alongside [Claudia Tagbo.](/source/Claudia_Tagbo) The film, directed by Garance Meillon and writted by Christophe Martinolli, was initially broadcast on [TV5Monde](/source/TV5Monde).[9]

In 2019, he played Séby on the [Netflix](/source/Netflix) horror series *[Marianne](/source/Marianne_(TV_series))*.[10]

Between 2019 and 2021, he played the astronaut Samuel Becker in the French science-fiction television series *[Missions](/source/Missions_(TV_series))*, broadcast by [OCS](/source/OCS_(TV_channel)).[11]

In 2023, he starred as hotel concierge Paul Kandjo on the Netflix series *[Transatlantic](/source/Transatlantic_(TV_series))*,[12] and had a supporting role in the French television series *Split*, directed by [Iris Brey](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Iris_Brey&action=edit&redlink=1) [[fr](https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iris_Brey)].[13] Amoussou also appeared in a re-telling of the classic [Alexandre Dumas](/source/Alexandre_Dumas) novel *[The Three Musketeers](/source/The_Three_Musketeers)*; the French film *[The Three Musketeers: Milady](/source/The_Three_Musketeers%3A_Milady)*, where he played Hannibal, based on the true story of [Louis Aniaba](/source/Assinie-Mafia#King_of_Assinie), the prince of Assinie[14] and the first Black musketeer.[15]
