A product of the [Nairobi Gymkhana Club](/source/Nairobi_Gymkhana_Club),[1] he is a [wicket-keeper](/source/Wicket-keeper)–[batsman](/source/Batsman) who plays right-handed, and occasionally bowls [off spin](/source/Off_spin). ## Career He made his lone performance for the [Kenya Select](/source/Kenya_Select) team in their inaugural season, and found himself called up to the national squad for their tour of Europe, including a [tour of the Netherlands](/source/Kenyan_cricket_team_in_the_Netherlands_in_2008) and the [2009 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier](/source/2009_ICC_World_Twenty20_Qualifier).[1] In a [2013 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier](/source/2013_ICC_World_Twenty20_Qualifier) match against [Nepal](/source/Nepal_national_cricket_team), Patel scored 103 off 45 balls, batting at [number 6](/source/Batting_order_(cricket)). This equalled the record of [Dawid Malan](/source/Dawid_Malan) for the highest [Twenty20](/source/Twenty20) score from a player batting at that position but has since been bettered.[2] In January 2018, Patel was named as captain of Kenya's squad for the [2018 ICC World Cricket League Division Two](/source/2018_ICC_World_Cricket_League_Division_Two) tournament.[3] However, Kenya finished in sixth and last place in the tournament and were relegated to [Division Three](/source/2018_ICC_World_Cricket_League_Division_Three).[4] As a result, Patel resigned as captain of the Kenyan team.[5] In September 2018, he was named in Kenya's squad for the [2018 Africa T20 Cup](/source/2018_Africa_T20_Cup).[6] The following month, he was named in Kenya's squad for the [2018 ICC World Cricket League Division Three](/source/2018_ICC_World_Cricket_League_Division_Three) tournament in Oman.[7] In May 2019, he was named in Kenya's squad for the [Regional Finals](/source/2018%E2%80%9319_ICC_T20_World_Cup_Africa_Qualifier#Regional_Finals) of the [2018–19 ICC T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier](/source/2018%E2%80%9319_ICC_T20_World_Cup_Africa_Qualifier) tournament in Uganda.[8][9] He was the leading run-scorer for Kenya in the Regional Finals, with 106 runs in three matches.[10] In September 2019, he was named in Kenya's squad for the [2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier](/source/2019_ICC_T20_World_Cup_Qualifier) tournament in the United Arab Emirates.[11] In November 2019, he was named in Kenya's squad for the [Cricket World Cup Challenge League B](/source/2019_Oman_Cricket_World_Cup_Challenge_League_B) tournament in Oman.[12] In October 2021, he was named in Kenya's squad for the Regional Final of the [2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier](/source/2021_ICC_Men's_T20_World_Cup_Africa_Qualifier) tournament in Rwanda.[13] ## References 1.
