A '''raised intersection''' is a structural [traffic calming](/source/traffic_calming) measure<ref>{{Cite web |title=Statens vegvesen - Fartsdempende tiltak - Håndbok V128 |url=https://vegvesen.brage.unit.no/vegvesen-xmlui/bitstream/handle/11250/2583740/HB-V128-2017.pdf?sequence=1&isAllowed=y}}</ref> that involves raising the roadway to approximately the same level as the [sidewalk](/source/sidewalk) ({{cvt|8|-|10|cm|in|disp=sqbr}}). The purpose is to calm traffic, and remind drivers to be mindful of [cyclists](/source/Cyclist) and [pedestrians](/source/Pedestrian). The color of the raised intersection is often different from the rest of the street to make it easier to see.

The entrance to the plateau is a specially designed [ramp](/source/ramp) that resembles a [speed bump](/source/speed_bump) (slope of 1:10 to 1:5) so that the intersection is only comfortable to drive through if the vehicle maintains a limited speed (for example from {{cvt|30|to|50|km/h|mph|disp=sqbr}}). The length of the plateau varies, but is often over {{cvt|5|m|ft}} to prevent vehicles with low [ground clearance](/source/ground_clearance) from coming into contact with the ground.
