# Rainer Borkowsky

**Rainer Borkowsky** (born 19 October 1942) is a German [rowing coxswain](/source/Coxswain_(rowing)) who competed for the [United Team of Germany](/source/United_Team_of_Germany) in the [1956 Summer Olympics](/source/1956_Summer_Olympics).

Borkowsky was born in [Frankfurt](/source/Frankfurt), Germany, in 1942.[1] At the [1956 European Rowing Championships](/source/1956_European_Rowing_Championships) in [Bled](/source/Bled), Yugoslavia, he won a gold medal in the coxed pair with rowers [Karl-Heinrich von Groddeck](/source/Karl-Heinrich_von_Groddeck) and [Horst Arndt](/source/Horst_Arndt).[2] The same team went to the [1956 Summer Olympics](/source/1956_Summer_Olympics) in [Melbourne](/source/Melbourne), Australia, where they won the silver medal in [this boat class](/source/Rowing_at_the_1956_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Men's_coxed_pair).[1] At the [1957 European Rowing Championships](/source/1957_European_Rowing_Championships) in [Duisburg](/source/Duisburg), Germany, they again won a gold medal.[2]
