# Ragpicker String Band

The **Ragpicker String Band** is a [Memphis](/source/Memphis,_Tennessee), Tennessee-based [folk](/source/Folk_music)-[blues](/source/Blues_music) trio consisting of Rich DelGrosso ([mandolin](/source/Mandolin)), [Mary Flower](/source/Mary_Flower) (guitar), and Martin Grosswendt (multiple instruments). They released their self-titled debut album in 2015 on [Yellow Dog Records](/source/Yellow_Dog_Records).[1] The album was mixed by [Stuart Sullivan](/source/Stuart_Sullivan) at Wire Recording in [Austin](/source/Austin,_Texas), Texas, and produced by [Mark "Kaz" Kazanoff](/source/Mark_%22Kaz%22_Kazanoff).[2] It was nominated for Best Acoustic Album of the Year at the 2016 [Blues Music Awards](/source/Blues_Music_Award).[3]

## Reviews

[Robert Christgau](/source/Robert_Christgau) gave *The Ragpicker String Band* an A− grade, highlighting the band's cover of "Google Blues" and praising DelGrosso's mandolin playing.[4] Mark Thompson of *[Blues Blast](/source/Blues_Blast_Magazine)* magazine also reviewed the album favorably, writing, "the Ragpicker String Band delivers a treasure-trove of originals and covers that hark back to a by-gone era, yet sound totally modern in their expert hands."[5] Cam Hayden of [CKUA Radio Network](/source/CKUA_Radio_Network) named the album one of his five favorite albums of 2015.[6]
