Rafa Luz, the brother of several international players for the [Brazilian national women's team](/source/Brazil_women's_national_basketball_team), was called up to the [Brazilian national under-18 team](/source/Brazil_national_under-19_basketball_team), at the age of 15.

Luz signed for the [2010–11 ACB season](/source/2010%E2%80%9311_ACB_season) with the Spanish club [Unicaja](/source/Baloncesto_M%C3%A1laga), but he ended up playing with the club's [farm team](/source/farm_team), [Clínicas Rincón](/source/CB_Axarqu%C3%ADa). In March 2011, he was [loaned](/source/loan_(sports)) to the Spanish club [CB Granada](/source/CB_Granada), until the end of the season. There, he averaged 4.8 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game in the [Spanish ACB League](/source/Spanish_ACB_League). In August 2011, Unicaja loaned him to Spanish club [Lucentum Alicante](/source/CB_Lucentum_Alicante).
