The **Rae River** (**Pallirk**) is a [waterway](/source/Waterway) that flows from Akuliakattak Lake[1] into Richardson Bay, [Coronation Gulf](/source/Coronation_Gulf). Its mouth is situated northwest of [Kugluktuk, Nunavut](/source/Kugluktuk%2C_Nunavut). Its shores were the ancestral home of [Copper Inuit](/source/Copper_Inuit) subgroups: the [Kanianermiut](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kanianermiut&action=edit&redlink=1)[2] (also known as [Uallirgmiut](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Uallirgmiut&action=edit&redlink=1)) (located at the river's headwaters) and the [Pallirmiut](/source/Pallirmiut)[3] (located at the river's mouth).

The Rae River is named in honour of [Scottish](/source/Scotland) [Arctic](/source/Arctic) [explorer](/source/Explorer) [John Rae](/source/John_Rae_(explorer)).[4]
