==History==
[[File:Cmentarz wojskowy w Radzyminie - mogiła bohaterów 1920 (3).JPG|thumb|left|Grave of Polish troops fallen in the [Battle of Radzymin (1920)](/source/Battle_of_Radzymin_(1920))]]
Radzymin dates back to the [Middle Ages](/source/Middle_Ages). It was mentioned in a document of Duke [Bolesław IV of Warsaw](/source/Boles%C5%82aw_IV_of_Warsaw) from 1440. It was granted a town charter in 1475.<ref>{{cite book|last=Krzysztofik|first=Robert|title=Lokacje miejskie na obszarze Polski. Dokumentacja geograficzno-historyczna|year=2007|location=Katowice|publisher=Wydawnictwo [Uniwersytetu Śląskiego](/source/Uniwersytet_%C5%9Al%C4%85ski)|language=pl|pages=64–65|isbn=978-83-226-1616-1}}</ref> Since then, the town shared the fate of the nearby city of Warsaw, located only {{convert|25|km|mi|sp=us}} away. It was a [private town](/source/private_town) owned by [Polish nobility](/source/szlachta), administratively located in the Warsaw County in the [Masovian Voivodeship](/source/Masovian_Voivodeship_(1526%E2%80%931795)) in the [Greater Poland Province](/source/Greater_Poland_Province%2C_Crown_of_the_Kingdom_of_Poland) of the Kingdom of Poland.<ref>{{cite book|author=<!--Staff writer(s); no by-line.-->|title=Mazowsze w drugiej połowie XVI wieku; Cz.1, Mapy, plany|language=pl|location=Warszawa|publisher=[Wydawnictwo Naukowe PWN](/source/Polish_Scientific_Publishers_PWN)|page=4}}</ref>

It was annexed by [Prussia](/source/Kingdom_of_Prussia) in the [Third Partition of Poland](/source/Third_Partition_of_Poland) in 1795. In 1807, it was regained by Poles and included within the newly formed, however short-lived [Duchy of Warsaw](/source/Duchy_of_Warsaw). During the [Austro–Polish War](/source/Austro%E2%80%93Polish_War) of 1809, it was the site of the [Battle of Radzymin (1809)](/source/Battle_of_Radzymin_(1809)), which ended in a Polish victory. Following the duchy's dissolution in 1815, the town fell to the [Russian Partition](/source/Russian_Partition) of Poland. During the [January Uprising](/source/January_Uprising), on July 30, 1863, a skirmish between Polish insurgents and Russian soldiers took place there. Russian soldiers surrounded a Polish insurgent unit, but after a short battle the Poles managed to break through the encirclement and escape towards [Kałuszyn](/source/Ka%C5%82uszyn).<ref>{{cite book|last=Zieliński|first=Stanisław|title=Bitwy i potyczki 1863-1864. During the [Polish–Soviet War](/source/Polish%E2%80%93Soviet_War), in August 1920, it was the site of the [Battle of Radzymin (1920)](/source/Battle_of_Radzymin_(1920)), in which Poles defeated the invading Russians.

Following the joint German-Soviet [invasion of Poland](/source/invasion_of_Poland), which started [World War II](/source/World_War_II) in September 1939, the town was [occupied by Germany](/source/Occupation_of_Poland_(1939%E2%80%931945)). In August 1944, it was the site of the [Battle of Radzymin (1944)](/source/Battle_of_Radzymin_(1944)) between Germany and the advancing Soviet troops.
