== Early life and education ==
Wu was born and raised in Hong Kong.<ref name="VoyageLA">{{cite web|url=http://voyagela.com/interview/meet-jason-wu-rabitt-silverlake/|title=Meet Jason Wu|publisher=VoyageLA|date=November 4, 2019|accessdate=December 6, 2019}}</ref><ref name="Island">{{cite web|url=https://islandschoolmusic.blogspot.com/2011/06/jazz-tellers.html|title=The Jazz Tellers|date=June 22, 2011|first=Tom|last=Basford|accessdate=December 6, 2019}}</ref> He started playing piano at the age of 5 and soon developed a passion for the drums. He then attended [Berklee College of Music](/source/Berklee_College_of_Music) in 2011 and moved to [Los Angeles](/source/Los_Angeles), [California](/source/California) shortly after graduation.<ref name="VoyageLA" /><ref name="Island" /> It was at Berklee where he would meet the woman who would eventually sign him to her label, [Kara DioGuardi](/source/Kara_DioGuardi), CEO of [Arthouse Entertainment](/source/Arthouse_Entertainment). DioGuardi is a visiting scholar with expertise in songwriting at Berklee.<ref name="Berklee" >{{cite web|url=https://www.berklee.edu/people/kara-dioguardi|title=Kara DioGuardi|accessdate=December 6, 2019}}</ref>

Wu credits his parents' moral and financial support with allowing him to succeed in the music industry.<ref name="VoyageLA" />

In 2014, Wu signed his first publishing deal with [Universal Music Publishing](/source/Universal_Music_Publishing) and [Arthouse Entertainment](/source/Arthouse_Entertainment). The deal helped him obtain the [visa](/source/travel_visa) necessary to stay in the [United States](/source/United_States) after finishing school.<ref name="VoyageLA" />

== Professional career ==

After connecting with DioGuardi, Wu collaborated with another of [Arthouse Entertainment](/source/Arthouse_Entertainment)'s artists, [Claire Rachel Wilkinson](/source/Claire_Rachel_Wilkinson), then going by the name Clairity. Wu's production was featured on her 2015 debut [EP](/source/Extended_Play) "Alienation".<ref name="Billboard" /><ref name="Universal" />

Wu co-wrote and produced Andy Grammer's 2017 track "Freeze" off his album, ''[The Good Parts](/source/The_Good_Parts)''. It was the last song Grammer wrote for the album, and he considered it a "little ode" to his days as a street performer singing "[Sunday Morning](/source/Sunday_Morning_(Maroon_5_song))" by [Maroon 5](/source/Maroon_5).<ref name="Grammer">{{cite web|url=https://www.billboard.com/music/pop/andy-grammer-new-album-the-good-parts-songs-stories-interview-8054935/|title=Andy Grammar Shares Stories Behind Tracks on 'The Good Parts'|first=Taylor|last=Weatherby|date=December 1, 2017|publisher=billboard|access-date=December 6, 2019}}</ref> In 2019, Wu said hearing the song play in the Italian underwear store [Calzedonia](/source/Calzedonia) was the "proudest moment of his career".<ref name= "VoyageLA" />

In 2018, Wu co-wrote and produced an original composition titled "Perfume Smoke" for the [soap opera](/source/soap_opera) ''[General Hospital](/source/General_Hospital)''.<ref name="AirWater">{{cite web|url=http://airandwatermusic.com/news/2018/4/25/air-water-and-sesac-congratulate-axel-mansoor-on-emmy-nomination|title=AIR + WATER AND SESAC CONGRATULATE AXEL MANSOOR ON EMMY NOMINATION|date=April 25, 2018|accessdate=December 6, 2019}}</ref> The song was nominated for an Outstanding Original Song – Drama [Emmy](/source/Emmy) at the [45th Daytime Emmy Awards](/source/45th_Daytime_Emmy_Awards).<ref name= "Emmy">{{cite web|url=http://emmyonline.com/day_45th_nominations|title=THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF TELEVISION ARTS & SCIENCES ANNOUNCES NOMINATIONS FOR THE 45TH ANNUAL DAYTIME EMMY® AWARDS|date=March 21, 2018|accessdate=December 6, 2019|archive-date=October 23, 2020|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20201023083444/http://emmyonline.com/day_45th_nominations|url-status=dead}}</ref>
