# Rabil

**Rabil** is a [town](/source/Town)[1] on the island of [Boa Vista](/source/Boa_Vista,_Cape_Verde), [Cape Verde](/source/Cape_Verde). It was the island's former capital. Rabil is the island's second largest town, located 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) southeast of the island capital of [Sal Rei](/source/Sal_Rei,_Cape_Verde). Its population was 1,248 in 2010. The island's airport, [Aristides Pereira International Airport](/source/Aristides_Pereira_International_Airport), is situated northwest of the town.

## Geography

The river [Ribeira do Rabil](/source/Ribeira_do_Rabil) flows past the town. The wetlands around its mouth are an [Important Bird Area](/source/Ribeira_do_Rabil_Important_Bird_Area).[2] The beach [Praia da Chave](/source/Praia_da_Chave) has been developed for tourism.
