***Rabbit's Moon*** is an [avant-garde](/source/Avant-garde) [short film](/source/Short_film) by American filmmaker [Kenneth Anger](/source/Kenneth_Anger). Filmed in 1950, *Rabbit's Moon* was not completed (nor did it see release) until 1971.

## Plot

Filmed under a blue filter and set within a wooded glade during the night, the plot revolves around a clown, [Pierrot](/source/Pierrot), his longing for the [Moon](/source/Moon) (in which lives [a rabbit](/source/Moon_rabbit), according to both East Asian folklore and [Aztec](/source/Aztec_mythology) mythology), and his futile attempts to jump up and catch it. Subsequently, another clown ([Harlequin](/source/Harlequin)) appears and teases Pierrot, showing him [Columbina](/source/Columbina), with whom he appears to fall in love.

## Production

The sets were borrowed from French filmmaker [Jean-Pierre Melville](/source/Jean-Pierre_Melville).[1]

## Music

The 1971 version of *Rabbit's Moon* features a soundtrack consisting of 1950s and '60s [pop](/source/Pop_music): "[There's a Moon Out Tonight](/source/There's_a_Moon_Out_Tonight)" by [The Capris](/source/The_Capris), "[Oh, What a Night](/source/Oh%2C_What_a_Night_(The_Dells_song))" by [The Dells](/source/The_Dells), "[Bye Bye Baby](/source/Bye_Bye_Baby_(Mary_Wells_song))" by [Mary Wells](/source/Mary_Wells), "[I Only Have Eyes For You](/source/I_Only_Have_Eyes_For_You)" by [The Flamingos](/source/The_Flamingos) and "[Tears On My Pillow](/source/Tears_On_My_Pillow)" by [The El Dorados](/source/The_El_Dorados). The 1979 version features only a loop of A Raincoat's "It Came In The Night" as its soundtrack.

## Legacy
