# RT-70

There are three [radio telescopes](/source/radio_telescopes) designated '''RT-70''', all in countries that were once part of the former [Soviet Union](/source/Soviet_Union), all with similar specifications: 70m dishes and an operating range of 5–300&nbsp;GHz. They are a part of the former [Soviet Deep Space Network](/source/Soviet_Deep_Space_Network), now operated by [Russia](/source/Russia). The Yevpatoria facility has also been used as a [radar telescope](/source/radar_telescope) in observations of [space debris](/source/space_debris) and [asteroids](/source/asteroids).

With their 70m antenna diameter, they are among the largest radio telescopes in the world.

They are:

* the [Galenki RT-70 radio telescope](/source/Galenki_RT-70_radio_telescope) at the [East Center for Deep Space Communications](/source/East_Center_for_Deep_Space_Communications), [Galenki](/source/Galenki) ([Ussuriysk](/source/Ussuriysk)), [Russia](/source/Russia).
* the [Suffa RT-70 radio telescope](/source/Suffa_RT-70_radio_telescope) at the [Suffa Radio Observatory](/source/Suffa_Radio_Observatory) on the [Suffa plateau](/source/Suffa_plateau), [Uzbekistan](/source/Uzbekistan). Never completed.

In 2008, RT-70 was used to beam 501 messages at the [exoplanet](/source/exoplanet) [Gliese 581c](/source/Gliese_581c), in hopes of making contact with extraterrestrial intelligence.
