The **RMS Duke of Rothesay** was a steamer [passenger ship](/source/Passenger_ship) operated by the [London Midland and Scottish Railway](/source/London_Midland_and_Scottish_Railway) from 1928 to 1956.[1]

## In service

She was commissioned with two other ships, the [RMS *Duke of Argyll* (1928)](/source/RMS_Duke_of_Argyll) and the [RMS *Duke of Lancaster* (1927)](/source/RMS_Duke_of_Lancaster).

Built at [William Denny and Brothers](/source/William_Denny_and_Brothers), [Dumbarton](/source/Dumbarton) and completed in 1928, she was designed to operate as a passenger ferry on the [Heysham](/source/Heysham) to [Belfast](/source/Belfast) route.

## Replacement

In 1956, along with her sister ships she was replaced by [TSS *Duke of Rothesay*](/source/TSS_Duke_of_Rothesay).
