# RISE (Ireland)

**RISE** is a [democratic socialist](/source/Democratic_socialist) political organisation in Ireland, founded in September 2019 by former members of the [Socialist Party](/source/Socialist_Party_(Ireland)),[5] including [Paul Murphy](/source/Paul_Murphy_(Irish_politician)) [TD](/source/Teachta_D%C3%A1la). While it was established as a separate political group, it was never officially registered as a political party.[6] Instead, in February 2021 it entered [People Before Profit](/source/People_Before_Profit) party as an internal network.[7][8] The name is a [contrived acronym](/source/Contrived_acronym) standing for **R**evolutionary, **I**nternationalist, **S**ocialist and **E**nvironmentalist. It supports a Socialist Green New Deal to reach [net zero](/source/Carbon_neutrality) carbon emissions by 2030, the nationalisation and democratic control of the banking system and the abolition of capitalist private property.[9]

The organisation runs a weekly podcast called *Rupture Radio*,[10] and also launched an eco-socialist quarterly publication, *Rupture*, in July 2020.[11]

## Election results

After RISE's foundation, it was not a registered political party and instead formed part of the [Solidarity–People Before Profit](/source/Solidarity%E2%80%93People_Before_Profit) alliance for electoral purposes.[12] RISE contested an election for the first time at the [2020 general election](/source/2020_Irish_general_election), in which it ran as part of the Solidarity–People Before Profit alliance. [Paul Murphy](/source/Paul_Murphy_(Irish_politician)), one of the network's founders and a TD for [Dublin South-West](/source/Dublin_South-West), was RISE's only candidate in this election[13] and was re-elected. At the 2024 general election, Murphy was re-elected as a People Before Profit–Solidarity TD.
