In molecular biology, '''REBASE''' is a database of information about [restriction enzyme](/source/restriction_enzyme)s and [DNA methyltransferase](/source/DNA_methyltransferase)s.<ref>{{cite journal |last=Roberts|first=Richard J|author2=Vincze Tamas |author3=Posfai Janos |author4=Macelis Dana |date=Jan 2010|title=REBASE--a database for DNA restriction and modification: enzymes, genes and genomes|journal = Nucleic Acids Res.|volume=38|issue=Database issue|pages=D234-6|location = England| pmid = 19846593|doi = 10.1093/nar/gkp874| pmc = 2808884 }}</ref> REBASE contains an extensive set of references, sites of recognition and cleavage, sequences and structures. It also contains information on the commercial availability of each enzyme. REBASE is one of the longest running [biological databases](/source/biological_databases) having its roots in a collection of restriction enzymes maintained by [Richard J. Roberts](/source/Richard_J._Roberts) since before 1980.<ref name="pmid6243774">{{cite journal |author=Roberts RJ |title=Restriction and modification enzymes and their recognition sequences |journal=Nucleic Acids Res. |volume=8 |issue=1 |pages=r63–r80 |date=January 1980 |pmid=6243774 |pmc=327257 |doi= 10.1093/nar/8.1.197-d}}</ref> Since that time there have been regular descriptions of the resource in the journal [Nucleic Acids Research](/source/Nucleic_Acids_Research).<ref name="pmid6280143">{{cite journal |author=Roberts RJ |title=Restriction and modification enzymes and their recognition sequences |journal=Nucleic Acids Res. |volume=10 |issue=5 |pages=r117–44 |date=March 1982 |pmid=6280143 |pmc=320569 |doi= 10.1093/nar/10.5.1770}}</ref><ref name="pmid8392714">{{cite journal |vauthors=Roberts RJ, Macelis D |title=REBASE--restriction enzymes and methylases |journal=Nucleic Acids Res. |volume=21 |issue=13 |pages=3125–37 |date=July 1993 |pmid=8392714 |pmc=309742 |doi= 10.1093/nar/21.13.3125}}</ref>
