# QuickSilver (project)

The **QuickSilver** project at [Cornell University](/source/Cornell_University) was an [AFRL](/source/AFRL)-funded effort in the 2000s to build a platform in support of a new generation of scalable, secure, reliable [distributed computing](/source/Distributed_computing) applications that were able to regenerate themselves after failure in order to be more resilient to [cyber attacks](/source/Cyber_attack).[1][2][3]

Among the partners on the project were [DARPA](/source/DARPA) funding under the SRS program, the [United States Air Force](/source/United_States_Air_Force) ([AFOSR](/source/AFOSR)), [NSF International](/source/NSF_International), [Intel Corporation](/source/Intel_Corporation), and others.[1][2][3]

The principal investigators were Cornell Professors [Kenneth P. Birman](/source/Kenneth_P._Birman), [Johannes Gehrke](/source/Johannes_Gehrke), and [Paul Francis](/source/Paul_Francis_(professor))[citation needed]
