Queen was born in [Watts, Los Angeles](/source/Watts%2C_Los_Angeles), [California](/source/California), to an [American Samoa](/source/American_Samoa)n mother who worked as a teacher, and an [African American](/source/African_American) father who worked as a percussionist and singer and toured the Caribbean. After graduating high school at an early age, she attended [Mt. San Jacinto College](/source/Mt._San_Jacinto_College) in [Riverside County](/source/Riverside_County%2C_California), where she studied art.
