**Qin Guorong** ([Chinese](/source/Chinese_language): 秦国荣; born 4 May 1961), commonly known as **Townsend Qin**, is a Chinese former [footballer](/source/Association_football) who played as a [midfielder](/source/Midfielder) for [Shanghai team](/source/Shanghai_Shenhua_F.C.) and [San Francisco Bay Blackhawks](/source/San_Francisco_Bay_Blackhawks), while internationally he represented [China](/source/China_national_football_team) in the [1984 Asian Cup](/source/1984_Asian_Cup).

## Playing career

Qin started his football career when he played for the Shanghai youth team before he graduated to the senior [Shanghai](/source/Shanghai_Shenhua_F.C.) team in the 1979 season. [Zeng Xuelin](/source/Zeng_Xuelin) would include him in the [Chinese national team](/source/China_national_football_team) squad that competed in the [1984 Asian Cup](/source/1984_Asian_Cup) where China came runners-up.[1] He was subsequently dropped from the Chinese team by [Gao Fengwen](/source/Gao_Fengwen) and Qin moved to the [United States](/source/United_States) in 1987.[2] In 1989, Qin signed with the [San Francisco Bay Blackhawks](/source/San_Francisco_Bay_Blackhawks) of the [Western Soccer League](/source/Western_Soccer_League).[3] In 1990, the WSL merged with the [American Soccer League](/source/American_Soccer_League_(1988-1989)) to form the [American Professional Soccer League](/source/American_Professional_Soccer_League). Qin continued to play for the Blackhawks in the new league.[4] He was a 1990 and 1991 First Team All Star and continued to play for the Blackhawks through the 1992 season.
