**Python of [Catana](/source/Catana)**, [Magna Graecia](/source/Magna_Graecia), was a dramatic poet of the time of [Alexander](/source/Alexander_the_Great), whom he accompanied into Asia, and whose army he entertained with a [satyric drama](/source/Satyric_drama), called *Agen (Ἀγήν)* when they were celebrating the [Dionysia](/source/Dionysia) on the banks of the [Hydaspes](/source/Hydaspes). The drama was in ridicule of [Harpalus](/source/Harpalus) and the Athenians; fragments of it are preserved by [Athenaeus](/source/Athenaeus). Identification of the poet with [Python of Byzantium](/source/Python_of_Byzantium), the highly regarded orator in the service of [Philip II](/source/Philip_II_of_Macedon), is unlikely.
